If your law firm's website or blog features a significant amount of content, you can improve usability by adding a site search tool that allows visitors to search your site or blog for specific content of interest.
Many proprietary blogging systems such as Word Press or Movable Type come with built-in search applications.
In other scenarios, we prefer hosted solutions that run off a third party's server. For Typepad blogs, we've had success incorporating Google's hosted free search tool. Google also offers a hosted paid search tool called Google Site Search that eliminates ads and can be customized to match the look-and-feel of your website.
One hosted site search tool we've had great success incorporating into law firm websites is FreeFind. In one recent engagement, the application running the firm's site search feature had broken down, and we successfully swapped in Free Find.
